Subject: (News & Chat) Covers and mass market paperback
Date: Tue, 19 Apr 2005

The UPS truck just stopped by...

and delivered, hot from my editor in New York, advance copies of the first mass market edition of Paladin of Souls, proving it is now in print in paperback and presumably wending to stores, plus some of the incredibly gorgeous dust jackets for The Hallowed Hunt. The title and author's name on the HH dust jacket lettering is in raised copper foil, which both shows up brilliantly, at least if the light is at the right angle, and is thematically correct for the god.

With PoS, we've finally managed to get the maps in, simple as they are. (They only show the places mentioned in the text, which is enough to crowd the small page as it is.) And that nice, and I hope eye-catching, banner across the top reading "Hugo Award Winner for Best Novel". All the pages appear to be right-side-up, always the first thing I check. On-sale date April 26.

The paperback also has a teaser in the back for The Hallowed Hunt, just the first half of Chapter One, but I hope it will help get the word out. The usual florid author-bio inside the back cover also mentions our website address, which might bring some new visitors.

Beautiful art in both cases by Dave Bowers, www.dmbowers.com

For a sneak peek at the dust jacket artwork without the text, www.dendarii.co.uk/Covers/American/hh.jpg Feel free to disseminate same. Quite a nice rendition of my two main characters there, methinks. The god is very pretty, too.

Subject: (news) first look at First Looks
Date: Wed, 13 Apr 2005

The HarperCollins First Looks reviews are up... they appear to be using excerpts, rather than the full texts, which is perhaps less revealing, but I suppose contributors can cross-post the uncut originals to the usual suspects if they want.

Subject: (News) Sapphire 2nd place for "Winterfair Gifts"
Date: Mon, 11 Apr 2005

The Sapphire Award folks passed the news along today: "Winterfair Gifts" placed second in their annual poll in the short fiction category. Jo Beverley's tale also from the Irresistible Forces anthology placed first, good-oh.

It's a cool award; they send one an actual sapphire, not only for 1st but for the other places as well, so I'll have a new gew-gaw to add to my necklace.

News is on their current but soon-to-change website at www.sfronline.com/

which is going to shift to www.specromonline.com/ in the near future.

Ta, Lois.
